Pinpoint Test U: The Fog Lamps Are On Continuously
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- U1 USE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
- Using the recorded results from the SJB self-test:
- Were any DTCs recorded?
- U2 CHECK CIRCUIT 477 (LB/BK) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c
- For Hybrid, measure the resistance between the fog lamp relay C1007-1, circuit 477 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.
- For Escape or Mariner, measure the resistance between the fog lamp relay C1007-1, circuit 477 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to U4.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- U3 CHECK CIRCUIT 478 (TN/OG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007
- Key in ON position.
- Do the fog lamps continue to illuminate?
- YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- U4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
