Pinpoint Test F: The Heated Seat Is Inoperative
- F1 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH OPERATION WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system repair only. Remove from the vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in personal injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraint control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the key is in the ON position. This is normal operation and does not indicate an SRS fault.NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING .
- For vehicles equipped with seat side air bags, carry out the following:
- Disconnect driver seat side air bag C367 or passenger seat side air bag C337. Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133.
- Disconnect the driver or passenger safety belt pretensioner electrical connector at the pretensioner.
- Connect the battery. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Key in ON position.
- Press the heated seat switch on the driver and passenger seats
- Do both heated switch indicators illuminate?
WARNING: Make certain that no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.Yes : If both indicators illuminate, GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
If only one indicator illuminates, GO to F5.
No : GO to F2.
- F2 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT RELAY CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Heated Seat Relay C3250.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage at heated seat relay C3250 pin 86, circuit 1003 (GY/YE), harness side and ground; and between C3250 pin 30, circuit 1153 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.
- Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes : GO to F3.
No : VERIFY smart junction box (SJB) fuse 35 (5A), battery junction box (BJB) fuse 10 (30A) or fuse 29 (20A) (Hybrid) are OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 1003 (GY/YE) or circuit 1153 (RD/BK). DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
- F3 CHECK HEATED SEAT RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between heated seat relay C3250 pin 85, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes : GO to F4.
No : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
- F4 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT RELAY
- Install a fused jumper lead between heat seat relay 33250 pin 30, circuit 1153 (RD/BK), harness side and C3250 pin 87, circuit 581 (RD) harness side.
- Do both heated seat indicators illuminate when pressed?
Yes : INSTALL a new heated seat relay. DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
No : REPAIR circuit 581 (RD). DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
- F5 CHECK INOPERATIVE HEATED SEAT SWITCH INPUT
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Heated Seat Switch C320 (Driver) or C321 (Passenger).
- Key in ON position.
- For early build vehicles, measure the voltage between driver heated seat switch C320 (passenger C321) pin 1, circuit 581 (RD), harness side and ground.
- For late build vehicles, measure the voltage between driver heated seat switch C320 (passenger C321) pin 2, circuit 581 (RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes : GO to F6.
No : REPAIR circuit 581 (RD). DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
- F6 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between heated seat switch C320 (passenger C321) pin 4, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes : INSTALL a new heated seat switch. DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
No : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). DISCONNECT the battery. If equipped, REMOVE the restraint system diagnostic tool and CONNECT the seat side air bag electrical connector. CONNECT the safety belt pretensioner electrical connector. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) DEPOWERING AND REPOWERING . TEST the system for normal operation.
