Pinpoint Test A: DTC B1213 - Anti-Theft Number Of Programmed Keys Is Below Minimum

  1. A1 RETRIEVE THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DTCS 
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: RETRIEVE DTCs.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: CLEAR DTCs.
    • Carry out the PCM on-demand self-test.
    • Is DTC B1213 the only DTC retrieved? 

    Yes  : GO to A2.

    No  : REPAIR the other DTCs retrieved. REFER to the PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) INDEX .

  2. A2 CHECK FOR PROGRAMMED PATS KEYS - MONITOR THE PCM PID NUMKEYS 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: PCM PID.

      Monitor the PCM PID NUMKEYS.

    • Does the PCM PID NUMKEYS display less than 2 PATS keys programmed? 

    Yes  : GO to A3.

    No  : The system is OK.

  3. A3 PROGRAM PATS KEYS 
      NOTE: Two PATS keys must be programmed in order to start the vehicle.
    • Cut a new PATS key.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Program the new PATS key(s). Refer to KEY PROGRAMMING USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT  in this article.
    • Does the anti-theft indicator illuminate for 3 seconds and then go out? 

    Yes  : Key in the OFF position for a minimum of 3 seconds. Key in the ON position. CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the self-test to verify all codes have been cleared. REFER to the PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) INDEX . If the vehicle is equipped with the valet feature, program the third key (if available) or instruct the customer on how to carry out this procedure. REFER to KEY PROGRAMMING USING TWO PROGRAMMED KEYS  in this article.

    No  : If the anti-theft indicator is on continuously, REPEAT Step  A3 with a second new PATS key. If the theft indicator is flashing, RETRIEVE DTC stored for new fault and REPAIR the other DTC(s) retrieved. REFER to the PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) INDEX .
