Pinpoint Test D: The Rear Window Wiper Stays On Continuously
- D1 CHECK THE SJB DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
- Use the recorded results from the SJB continuous and on-demand self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes : If DTC B1614, GO to D2.
If DTC B1244, GO to D6.
No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multi-function Switch C2081.
- Key in ON position.
- Does the rear window wiper continue to run?
Yes : GO to D3.
No : INSTALL a new multi-function switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D3 CHECK CIRCUITS 485 (PK/BK) AND 410 (WH/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- For the low speed wiper, measure the resistance between multi-function switch C2081-12, circuit 485 (PK/BK), harness side and ground.
- For the intermittent wiper, measure the resistance between multi-function switch C2081-10, circuit 410 (WH/OG), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes : GO to D4.
No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D4 CHECK CIRCUIT 411 (BK/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Rear Wiper Motor C476.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between rear wiper motor C476-3, circuit 411 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
NOTE: Make sure the multi-function switch is in the OFF position and the liftgate glass and liftgate are closed.Yes : GO to D5.
No : INSTALL a new rear wiper motor. REFER to WIPER MOTOR - REAR WINDOW in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- D5 CHECK CIRCUIT 411 (BK/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE WITH THE SJB DISCONNECTED
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280d.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between rear wiper motor C476-3, circuit 411 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
No : GO to D6.
- D6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . REPEAT the SJB self-test.
TEST the system for normal operation.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
