Pinpoint Test D: Insufficient, Erratic, Or No Heat
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- D1 USE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM SELF-TEST
- Using the recorded results from the PCM self-test:
- Is DTC P2600 retrieved?
- Yes : Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - POWERTRAIN DTC CHARTS AND DESCRIPTION - (HYBRID) to continue diagnosis of the electric coolant pump.
- No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK FOR CORRECT ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL
- Key in OFF position.
- Check the engine coolant level at hot and cold temperatures.
- Is the engine coolant at the correct level (hot/cold) in the radiator coolant recovery reservoir?
- Yes : GO to D4.
- No : GO to D3.
- D3 CHECK THE COOLANT SYSTEM INCLUDING THE RADIATOR CAP FOR LEAKS
- Fill the engine cooling system to the specified level.
- Pressure check the engine cooling system. Refer to ENGINE COOLING - HYBRID . It is not necessary to check components separately at this time.
- Does the engine cooling system, including the radiator cap, hold pressure?
- Yes : The system is operating normally at this time. The concern may have been caused by a low coolant level.
- No : REPAIR the engine cooling system. REFER to ENGINE COOLING - HYBRID . TEST the system for normal operation.
- D4 CHECK FOR HOT WATER TO THE HEATER CORE INLET HOSE WARNING: The heater core hoses become too hot to handle and may cause serious burns if the system is working correctly.
- Set the climate control to the warmest setting and the fan speed to the highest setting.
- Start the engine and allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
- Feel the heater core inlet hose.
- Is the heater core inlet hose too hot to handle?
- Yes : GO to D5.
- No : REFER to ENGINE COOLING - HYBRID to continue diagnosis of the engine cooling system.
- D5 CHECK THE HEATER CORE OUTLET HOSE FOR HOT WATER
- Feel the heater core outlet hose.
- Is the heater core outlet hose warm/hot?
- Yes : REFER to ENGINE COOLING - HYBRID .
- No : INSTALL a new heater core. REFER to HEATING AND VENTILATION . TEST the system for normal operation.
