Disassembly and Assembly

  1. Remove the reverse idler rear gear and reverse coupling sleeve.
  2. Remove the 3 insert springs.
  3. Remove the reverse idler gear needle bearing.
  4. Remove the reverse idler gear thrust bearing.
  5. Remove the reverse idler gear synchronizer ring.
  6. Remove the reverse idler front gear.
  7. Remove the reverse idler gear needle bearing.
  8. Remove the reverse idler gear thrust bearing.
  9. Remove and discard the roll pin.
  10. Inspect all the reverse idler shaft parts for damage, peeling, dents, uneven wear, bending, etc. Install new parts as necessary.

  11. Inspect the synchronizer rings for damage. Install new parts as necessary.

  12. NOTE: Limit value: 0.7 mm (0.02 in).

  13. Press the synchronizer ring against the cone and measure the clearance between the synchronizer ring and the flank surface of the gear. Install a new synchronizer ring if the measurement is not within specification.
  14. CAUTION: Be careful with the orientation of the insert springs.
  15. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
    • Install the insert springs in the correct orientation toward the engine.
