PROBLEM SYMPTOM CHART

Condition	Possible Sources	Action
Belt cracking	Belt.	INSPECT the belt for cracking or damage. If minor cracks only, the belt is OK. INSPECT the belt for cracking or damage. If excess cracks, INSTALL a new belt.
Belt chunking	Belt.	INSTALL a new belt.
Belt noise or squeal	Pulley(s).	DETERMINE where the noise is coming from. CHECK pulley alignment, freedom of rotation or damage. REPAIR or INSTALL new parts as necessary.
	Lubricant or other contamination.	CHECK belt for contamination. If the belt is contaminated, INSTALL a new belt.
	Belt.	CHECK belt for correct application.
Belt does not hold tension	Belt cracked or damaged.	INSPECT the belt for cracking or damage. If minor cracks only, the belt is OK. INSPECT the belt for cracking or damage. If excess cracks, INSTALL a new belt.
Belt does not hold tension	Tensioner worn or damaged.	CHECK belt tensioner for damage and correct operation. INSTALL a new belt tensioner, if necessary.
