WARNING: The evaporative emissions system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or liquid fuel are present in the area. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Drain the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  2. Disconnect the fuel filler pipe vent tube quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  3. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube assembly quick connect coupling at the rear of the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  4. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube assembly quick connect coupling and fuel supply tube quick connect couplings at the fuel filter. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.


  1. Remove the 4 fuel tank skid plate nuts and the skid plate (if equipped).
    • To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  2. Use a suitable jack to support the fuel tank.

  3. Remove the fuel tank support strap bolt-to-No. 4 crossmember and remove the fuel tank strap.
    • To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  4. Remove the fuel tank support strap bolt-to-No. 3 crossmember and remove the fuel tank strap.
    • To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  5. Using a suitable jack, lower the fuel tank down slightly to gain access to the electrical connectors.
  6. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube assembly electrical connector.
  7. Disconnect the fuel pump module electrical connector.
  8. Using the suitable jack, lower the fuel tank.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
