Pinpoint Test D: A Single Illumination Source Is Inoperative

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT and 2007 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
  1. D1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE CIRCUIT TO THE INOPERATIVE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source
    • Key in ON position.
    • Turn the parking lamps on, and rotate the dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
    • Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
      Dimmable Illumination Source Connector-Pin Circuit
      Message center switch C253-1 19 (LB/RD)
      Parking aid switch C2035-8 19 (LB/RD)
      Adjustable pedal switch C2235-5 19 (LB/RD)
      Audio unit C290a-3 19 (LB/RD)
      Floor shifter C3245-4 19 (LB/RD)
      DVD player C949-14 19 (LB/RD)
      4WD switch C284-4 19 (LB/RD)
      Traction control switch C280-8 19 (LB/RD)
      Non-Dimmable Illumination Source Connector-Pin Circuit
Roof opening panel control switch C912-5 54 (LG/YE)
LH door lock control switch C505-5 54 (LG/YE)
RH door lock control switch C605-5 54 (LG/YE)
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
    1. YES  : Go to  D2.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. D2 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT TO THE INOPERATIVE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
    • Measure the resistance between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
      Dimmable Illumination Source Connector-Pin Circuit
Message center switch C253-4 57 (BK)
Parking aid switch C2035-4 57 (BK)
Adjustable pedal switch C2235-4 57 (BK)
      Audio unit C290a-4 57 (BK)
      Floor shifter C3245-6 57 (BK)
      DVD player C949-15 57 (BK)
      4WD switch C284-1 57 (BK)
Traction control switch C280-7 57 (BK)
      Non-Dimmable Illumination Source Connector-Pin Circuit
Roof opening panel control switch C912-3 57 (BK)
LH door lock control switch C505-4 57 (BK)
RH door lock control switch C605-4 57 (BK)
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new illumination source in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
