Removal and Installation

WARNING: All safety belt assemblies (including retractors, belt tension sensor (BTS), if equipped, buckles, shoulder belt height adjusters [if equipped], child safety seat tether attachments and attaching hardware) should be inspected after every collision. All new belt assemblies should be installed unless a qualified technician finds the assemblies show no damage and operate correctly. Belt assemblies not in use during a collision should also be inspected and new assemblies installed if either damage or incorrect operation is noted. Failure to follow these instructions could increase the risk of injury in collisions.

    All vehicles 

    NOTE: Inspect the D-ring cover for damage. If the cover is damaged or does not remain closed, install a new D-ring cover.
  1. Open the D-ring cover.
  2. Remove the nut and the D-ring.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

    3. Regular cab 

  3. Remove the front door scuff plate and position aside the rear corner trim panel.

    4. Crew Cab 

  4. Remove the front and rear door scuff plates.
  5. Position aside the B-pillar trim panel.

    6. All vehicles 

  6. Remove the safety belt shoulder height adjuster cover.
  7. Remove the 2 bolts and the safety belt shoulder height adjuster.
    • To install, tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
    8. NOTE: Make sure the safety belt webbing is not twisted prior to installation.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  9. Check the active restraint system for correct operation. For additional information, refer to SAFETY BELT SYSTEM .
