Pinpoint Test Ad: The Daytime Running Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. AD1 VERIFY THE LOW BEAMS OPERATE 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the low beams position.
    • Do the low beams operate correctly? 

    Yes  : PLACE the headlamp switch in the OFF position. GO to AD2.

    No  : REFER to HEADLAMPS .

  2. AD2 CHECK THE DRL 1 RELAY PARKING BRAKE INPUT CIRCUIT 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Engage and release the parking brake.
    • Does the parking brake warning indicator illuminate when the parking brake is engaged and go off when the parking brake is released? 

    Yes  : GO to AD3.

    No  : REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .

  3. AD3 CHECK DRL RELAY 1 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: DRL Relay 1 C1171.
    • Carry out the relay component test for the DRL 1 relay. Refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTS for component testing.
    • Is the DRL 1 relay OK? 

    Yes  : GO to AD4.

    No  : INSTALL a new DRL 1 relay. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. AD4 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the DRL 1 relay C1171-3, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : GO to AD5.

    No  : GO to AD5.

  5. AD5 CHECK CIRCUIT 295 (LB/PK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: CJB C270h.
    • Measure the resistance between the DRL 1 relay C1171-3, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side and the CJB C270h-7, circuit 295 (LB/PK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  6. AD6 CHECK THE DRL RELAY 2 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: DRL Relay 2 C1172.
    • Carry out the component test for the DRL relay 2. Refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTS for component testing.
    • Is the DRL relay 2 OK? 

    Yes  : GO to AD7.

    No  : INSTALL a new DRL relay 2. TEST the system for normal operation.

  7. AD7 CHECK CIRCUIT 175 (BK/YE) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the DRL relay 2 C1172-3, circuit 175 (BK/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : INSTALL the DRL relay 2. GO to AD8.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  8. AD8 CHECK THE RELAY 3 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: DRL Relay 3 C1000.
    • Carry out the component test for DRL relay 3. Refer to EXTERIOR LIGHTS for component testing.
    • Is the DRL relay 3 OK? 

    Yes  : GO to AD9.

    No  : INSTALL a new DRL relay 3. TEST the system for normal operation.

  9. AD9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1032 (WH/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the DRL relay 3 C1000-85, circuit 1032 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : GO to AD10.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  10. AD10 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the DRL relay 3 C1000-86, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 

    Yes  : GO to AD11.

    No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  11. AD11 CHECK THE DRL RESISTOR 
    • Disconnect: DRL Resistor C196.
    • Measure the resistance between the DRL resistor pin 1, component side, and the DRL resistor pin 2, component side.

    • Is the resistance between 0.275 and 0.325 ohm? 

    Yes  : GO to AD12.

    No  : INSTALL a new DRL resistor. TEST the system for normal operation.

  12. AD12 CHECK CIRCUIT 554 (YE/BK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Measure the voltage between the DRL resistor C196, circuit 554 (YE/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 

    Yes  : REPAIR circuit 471 (OG/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

    No  : REPAIR circuit 554 (YE/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
