Removal and Installation

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING  in this article.
  3. Remove the thermostat housing. For additional information, refer to THERMOSTAT HOUSING - 3.0L (4V)  in this article.
  4. Remove the bypass tube-to-thermostat housing hose.
  5. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the bolt, stud bolt and bypass tube.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  7. Remove and inspect the O-ring seals, install new seals if necessary.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine coolant.
  9. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING  in this article.
