Removal & Installation

- Depower the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
- Using a suitable holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
- Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt and disconnect the shaft.
- To install, tighten the new bolt to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 upper steering column shaft bearing nuts.
- To install, tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
- Remove and discard the lower steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and remove the shaft.
- To install, tighten the new bolt to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Repower the SRS. For more additional information, refer to GENERAL PROCEDURES article.
NOTE:
Use a steering wheel holding device (such as Hunter® 28-75-1 or equivalent).
NOTE:
Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence the intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
