Pinpoint Test P: The Heated Seat Is Inoperative - Right Rear

  1. P1 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH INPUT RESISTANCE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Heated Seat Module C3163

    • Measure resistance between right rear heated seat module C3163-8, circuit 581 (RD), and C3163-11, circuit 1256 (WH/YE), harness side and ground while pressing the heated seat switch.
    • Are resistances less than 75 ohms while pressing the heated seat switch? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P3.
    2. NO  : Go to  P2.
  2. P2 CHECK HEATED SEAT SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Heated Seat Switch C822

    • Measure resistance between right rear heated seat switch C822-1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new heated seat switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. P3 CHECK VOLTAGE TO HEATED SEAT MODULE CIRCUIT 1445 (RD/LG)

    • Measure voltage between right rear heated seat module C3163-12, circuit 1445 (RD/LG), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P4.
    2. NO  : VERIFY Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 2 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM ARTICLE to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. P4 CHECK VOLTAGE TO HEATED SEAT MODULE CIRCUIT 1040 (RD/BK) 
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure voltage between right rear heated seat module C3163-5, circuit 1040 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P5.
    2. NO  : VERIFY Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse 17 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM ARTICLE to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. P5 CHECK HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure resistance between right rear heated seat module C3163-1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. P6 CHECK SEAT CUSHION AND BACKREST HEATER RESISTANCE 
    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB) harness side and C3163-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance between 1.6 and 10 ohms between heated seat module pins 6 and 7 and greater than 10,000 ohms between heated seat module and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P7.
    2. NO  : Go to  P13.
  7. P7 CHECK SEAT CUSHION AND BACKREST HEATER CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure voltage between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P8.
    2. NO  : Go to  P9.
  8. P8 CHECK CIRCUITS 1064 (YE/LB) AND 1065 (WH/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Backrest Heater C3170
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure voltage between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1064 (YE/LB) between the right rear seat cushion heater C3164 and the right rear seat backrest heater C3170. TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. P9 CHECK HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Measure voltage between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  P10.
  10. P10 CHECK RESISTANCE OF HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUITS 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and C3163-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance between 50 ohms and 300,000 ohms between heated seat module pins 3 and 4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between heated seat module and ground? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new right rear heated seat module. REFER to Heated Seat Module - Rear Seat . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : Go to  P11.
  11. P11 CHECK CIRCUIT 1061 (BN/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Cushion Heater C3169

    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and right rear seat cushion heater C3169-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P12.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  12. P12 CHECK CIRCUIT 1060 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and right rear seat cushion heater C3169-2, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new right rear seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  13. P13 CHECK CIRCUIT 1064 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Cushion Heater C3169

    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and right rear seat cushion heater C3169-1, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and seat cushion heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P14.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  14. P14 CHECK CIRCUIT 1065 (WH/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Right Rear Seat Backrest Heater C3170

    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and right rear seat backrest heater C3170-1, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side.
      • right rear heated seat module C3163-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms between the heated seat module and seat backrest heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the heated seat module and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P15.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  15. P15 CHECK CIRCUIT 1064 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND BETWEEN THE HEATED SEAT MODULE AND SEAT BACKREST HEATER

    • Measure resistance between:
      • right rear seat cushion heater C3169-4, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and right rear seat backrest heater C3170-2, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side.
      • right rear seat cushion heater C3169-4, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is resistance less than 5 ohms between the seat cushion heater and seat backrest heater and greater than 10,000 ohms between the seat cushion heater and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  P16.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  16. P16 CHECK SEAT BACKREST HEATER RESISTANCE

    • Measure resistance between right rear seat backrest heater C3170 pins 1 and 2, component side.
    • Is resistance between 0.7 and 1.5 ohm? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new right rear seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new right rear seat backrest heater. TEST the system for normal operation.
