Camshafts - LH: Removal

  1. Remove the coolant pump belt. For additional information refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE - 3.0L (4V) .
  2. Remove the timing drive components. For additional information, refer to TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS .
  3. CAUTION: The OEM pulley is pressed on 4.74 mm (0.18 in) past flush of the end of the camshaft. The service pulley is pressed on flush to the end of the camshaft.

  4. Using the special tools, remove and discard the coolant pump pulley.
  5. NOTE: To make sure of correct sealing, do not scratch the camshaft.

  6. Using the special tools, remove and discard the camshaft oil seal.
  7. CAUTION: Cylinder head camshaft journal caps and cylinder heads are numbered to verify that they are assembled in their original positions.

  8. Loosen the LH camshaft bolts evenly in the sequence shown in Fig 3 to allow the camshafts to rise from the cylinder head and remove the caps.
