Shift Point Road Test: Notes

NOTE: Always drive the vehicle in a safe manner according to driving conditions and obey all traffic laws.

This test verifies that the shift control system is operating correctly.

Bring engine and transmission up to normal operating temperature.
Operate the vehicle with the transmission range selector lever in Overdrive (Circle D) range.
Apply minimum throttle and observe the speeds at which the upshift occurs and the torque converter engages. (Refer to the shift speed chart.)
Press the accelerator pedal to the floor (wide-open throttle). The transmission should shift from 6th to 5th gear or 5th to 3rd, depending on vehicle speed. Torque converter clutch should disengage and then reapply.
With the vehicle speed above 48 km/h (30 mph), move the transmission range selector lever to a position that provides manual 3rd gear. The transmission should immediately have a 4th to 3rd shift. When the vehicle speed drops to 32 km/h (20 mph) a 3rd to 1st shift should occur.
