Pinpoint Test F: DTC C1145 (RF), C1155 (LF), C1165 (RR), C1175 (LR), DTC C1233 (LF), DTC C1234 (RF), DTC C1235 (RR), DTC C1236 (LR) - Anti-Lock Brake Sensor Input Circuit Failure/Signal Missing

Test Step 

  1. F1 CHECK THE SUSPECT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Measure the resistance between the suspect wheel speed sensor pins, component side.

    • Is the resistance between 1,200 and 1,800 ohms for the front wheel speed sensors, and between 1,300 and 1,900 ohms for the rear wheel speed sensors? 

    Result / Action to Take 

    1. Yes:  GO to F2.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new wheel speed sensor. REFER to SENSOR - FRONT  or SENSOR - REAR . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  2. F2 CHECK THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER
    NOTE: Both circuits must be checked for each DTC.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Module C135.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the ABS module C135 pins, harness side and ground as follows:

      C1145 5 516 (YE/BK)
      C1155 20 521 (TN/OG)
      C1155 21 522 (TN/BK)
      C1165 1 494 (TN/LG)

      C1175 22 496 (OG)
      C1175 23 499 (GY/BK)

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    2. No:  GO to F3.
  3. F3 CHECK THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    NOTE: Both circuits must be checked for each DTC.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the ABS module connector, harness side and ground as follows:

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to F4.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. F4 CHECK THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
    NOTE: Both circuits must be checked for each DTC.
    • Measure the resistance between the ABS module connector, harness side and the suspect wheel speed sensor connector, harness side as follows:

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  If DTC C1233, DTC C1234, DTC C1235, or DTC C1236 is present, GO to F5. If DTC C1145, DTC C1155, DTC C1165, or DTC C1175 is present, GO to  F10.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  5. F5 INSPECT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Inspect the wheel speed sensor for looseness, excessive dirt build-up, metal obstructions, improper harness routing, and chaffing.
    • Is the wheel speed sensor OK? 
    1. Yes:  GO to F6.
    2. No:  REPAIR or INSTALL a new wheel speed sensor. REFER to SENSOR - FRONT  or SENSOR - REAR .

      CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  6. F6 CHECK FOR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RING DAMAGE
    • Inspect the wheel speed sensor indicator for corrosion, and damaged or missing teeth. Rotate the wheel to verify that no teeth are missing, and the correct mounting and alignment of the indicator.
    • Is the wheel speed sensor indicator OK? 

    CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

    1. Yes:  GO to F7.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new wheel speed sensor ring. REFER to SENSOR INDICATOR - FRONT  or SENSOR INDICATOR - REAR . CLEAR the DTCs, REPEAT the self-test.
  7. F7 CHECK THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the ABS module connector pins, harness side and ground as follows:

    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to F8.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  8. F8 CHECK THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OUTPUTS
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Suspect wheel speed sensor.
    • While spinning the suspect wheel at one revolution per second, measure the AC voltage between the ABS module C135 pins, harness side and as follows:

    • Are the voltage between 120-3500 mV? 
    1. Yes:  GO to F9.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  9. F9 CHECK THE SUSPECT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
    • Disconnect: Suspect wheel speed sensor.
    • Measure the resistance between the suspect wheel speed sensor pin, harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to F10.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  10. F10 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
    • Disconnect the ABS connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect the ABS connector and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may has been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the selftest.
