Removal (Except E450)

NOTE: To prevent master cylinder overflow when caliper piston is depressed, remove and discard some brake fluid from master cylinder.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel.
  2. Release the speed sensor wiring from the front brake hose, if necessary. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove brake hose-to-caliper bolt. Remove and plug hose. Discard copper washers. See Fig 2.
  4. Remove caliper pin bolts. See Fig 3. Lift the disc brake caliper off the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
  5. Inspect the disc brake caliper for leaks. See Fig 4. If leaks are found, disassembly is required. See DISC BRAKE CALIPER  under OVERHAUL.
  6. Remove and inspect brake pads. See Figure. Replace as necessary. Remove the disc brake anti-rattle clips.
  7. Replace brake pads if lining is less than specification. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
