Valve Seals: Installation

    All valve seals 

    NOTE: Lubricate the valve seal and valve stem with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  1. Position a new valve seal onto the valve stem.
  2. Using the special tool, install the new valve seal.

  3. CAUTION: If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed into their original locations.

  4. Using the special tool, install the valve spring, the valve spring retainer and the valve spring retainer keys.
  5. Relieve the air pressure from the cylinder.
  6. CAUTION: If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed into their original locations.
    NOTE: Lubricate the camshaft roller followers with clean engine oil prior to installation.

  7. Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and install the camshaft roller follower.
  8. Install the spark plug. For additional information, refer to SPARK PLUGS .
  9. LH valve seals 

  10. Install the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - LH .
  11. RH valve seals 

  12. Using the special tools, align the engine support insulator studs and lower the engine.

  13. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when installing the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts or damage to the transmission mount can occur.
  14. Install the transmission mount-to-crossmember nuts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

  15. CAUTION: Only use hand tools when installing the engine support insulator nuts or damage to the engine support insulators can occur.
    NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
  16. Install the 6 RH and LH engine support insulator nuts.
    • Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).

  17. Install the 4 exhaust manifold-to-exhaust Y-pipe nuts.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

  18. Install the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - RH .
  19. Install the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR -- GASOLINE ENGINES .
  20. Install the cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to COOLING FAN -- BLADE, CLUTCH AND SHROUD .
  21. Install the air cleaner and air cleaner inlet tube. For additional information, refer to AIR CLEANER INTAKE PIPE -- 5.4L (3V) .
