Section 1487 (Engine - 6.0L (99P F450/550) Diesel -- F250-F550 Super Duty): Removal: Engine: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Disconnect the LH and RH battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Remove the transmission. For additional information, refer to MANUAL TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ZF 6-SPEED .
- Remove the clutch disc and pressure plate. For additional information, refer to CLUTCH .
- Remove the cooling fan stator. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
- Remove the charge air cooler. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
- Remove the A/C condenser assembly. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL .
- Remove the radiator grille opening panel reinforcement. For additional information, refer to FRONT END BODY PANELS .
- Remove the front bumper.
- Loosen the clamps and disconnect the power steering cooler hoses.
- Plug or cap the openings as needed.
- Disconnect the power steering tubes from the retaining clip and position aside.
- Remove the bolts and power steering cooler.
- Disconnect the transmission cooler hoses.
- Plug or cap the openings as needed.
- Remove the bolts and the transmission oil cooler.
- Remove the nut and position the body feed cable aside.
- Remove the bolts and upper radiator support.
- Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD .
- Remove the bolts and the battery tray.
- Disconnect the LH glow plug electrical connector.
- Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the 12-pin and 8-pin electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the heater hose at the front cover.
- Disconnect the radiator hose at the front cover.
- Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock couplings. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL .
- Remove the stator stand-offs.
- Remove the power steering pump upper mounting bolts.
- Remove the bolt and position the power steering pump aside.
- Remove the nut and the battery cable bracket.
- Remove the ground stud and the ground cable.
- Disconnect the wire harness retainers from the valve cover studs.
- Disconnect the injection control pressure (ICP) sensor electrical connector and wiring retainer. Disconnect the glow plug module electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the RH glow plug electrical connector.
- Disconnect the A/C high pressure switch and the A/C clutch electrical connectors.
- Remove the nut and disconnect the A/C hose.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
- Plug or cap the openings as needed.
- Remove the A/C compressor.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector and position the wiring aside.
- Remove the automatic transmission fluid indicator and tube.
- Remove the ground strap at the back of the right head.
- Remove the solenoid cap and disconnect the starter wiring.
- If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
- Position the block heater and starter wiring harness aside.
- Remove the torque converter cover.
- Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.
- Remove the bolts for the turbocharger adapter pipe.
- Remove the motor mount nuts.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Loosen the nuts at the turbocharger adapter pipe flange.
- Remove the 9 bellhousing bolts.
- Position the turbocharger adapter pipe to gain access to the adapter pipe joint. Remove the bolts, separate the adapter pipe joint and remove the gasket. Remove the 2 parts of the turbocharger adapter pipe.
- Remove the bolts and heat shield.
- To remove the exhaust pressure (EP) sensor tube assembly, remove the EP sensor tube nut and disconnect the EP sensor tube fitting at the exhaust manifold.
- Remove the nuts and the fuel injector control module bracket.
- Remove the left rear valve cover stud.
- Remove the transmission cooler line bracket.
- Secure the turbocharger outlet pipe.
- Remove the manufacturer's lifting eye.
- Install the engine lifting eye on the RH cylinder head.
- Install the front lifting brackets.
- Position a suitable jack under the transmission.
- Install the special tools on the engine.
- Raise the engine high enough to clear the No. 1 crossmember and pull the engine forward and clear of the vehicle.
- Remove the engine lifting equipment from the engine.
