Parking Brake Cable

1. Remove floor console. See FLOOR CONSOLE .
2. Release parking brake.
3. Remove clip and loosen parking brake cable adjustment nut. See Figure.
4. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels.
5. Remove tailpipe-to-muffler nuts. See Fig 1. Unhook hanger insulators and suitably support exhaust pipe.
6. Disconnect center hanger insulators.
7. Remove front exhaust heat shield. See Fig 2.
8. Remove center exhaust heat shield. See Fig 3.
9. Remove rear heat shield from floor panel. See Fig 4.
10. Disconnect parking brake cable from the equalizer by turning cable through 90 degrees. See Fig 5.
NOTE: There are marks and sleeves on the cable outer to indicate the clip locations. Note the position of the clips on the outer cable to aid in installation.
11. Disconnect rear cable from the retaining clips. See Fig 6.
12. Remove air deflector screws and clip (if equipped). Remove air deflectors. See Fig 7.
13. Disconnect the cable guides from floor panel. See Fig 8.
14. Disconnect the outer cables from the bracket. See Fig 9.
15. On vehicles with ABS, disconnect rear wheel speed sensors. See Fig 10.
16. On vehicles with rear drum brakes, remove the brake drum and hub assemblies. See Fig 11.
17. Disconnect parking brake cable guide from the tie bar. See Fig 12.
18. Disconnect parking brake cable. See Fig 13.
19. Pull parking brake cable and guide through the tie bar.
20. Release parking brake actuating lever, detach cable and depress the clip and remove the parking brake cable.
21. On vehicles with rear disc brakes, disconnect parking brake cable from the tie bar on both sides.
22. Pull back parking brake lever on rear caliper. Disconnect cable from parking brake lever. Remove conduit retaining clip and disconnect the cable and conduit. See Figure.
23. On all vehicles, remove parking brake cables.
24. To install, reverse removal procedure. The left side cable can be identified by a Green (2002) or White (2003) sleeve and the right side cable by a Black sleeve.
