Brake Shoes: Installation
- Use Silicone dielectric compound to lubricate brake shoe contact pads.
- Install parking brake return spring to secondary shoe. Install strut support to secondary shoe and move strut support upward. See Figure.
- Install primary shoe to strut and brake shoe adjuster. See Figure.
- Install upper and lower return spring. See Figure.
- Connect parking brake cable to parking brake cable anchor on secondary brake shoe. See Figure.
- Remove rubber band holding wheel cylinder pistons in place. Connect shoes to wheel cylinder. See Figure.
- Connect the shoes to the anchor block. See Figure.
- Install brake shoes on backing plate, and install brake shoe hold-down spring clips. See Figure.
- Install wheel spindle and wheel hub assembly. See Figure.
- On models with anti-lock brakes, install wheel speed sensor.
- Attach wheel speed sensor wiring harness to wheel knuckle and floor panel. Connect electrical connector. Attach clips.
- On all vehicles, install wheels.
- The internal auto adjuster must be set and the brake shoes centralized to the brake drum. Operate brake pedal to achieve automatic adjustment.
