Diagnostic Aids
NOTE:
After each service or repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Clear DTCs and repeat QUICK TEST procedures to ensure all electronic engine control systems are working properly and DTCs are no longer present.
Perform this test only when directed by QUICK TEST or if no DTCs are present and you are directed here from TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - 7.3L DIESEL article. This test is only intended to diagnose the following components and circuits:
- Wiring Harness Circuits (VPWR & WGC Signal)
- Wastegate Control (WGC) Solenoid
- WGC Actuator
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
NOTE:
Wastegate Control (WGC) solenoid is not used on F650-750.
A wastegated turbo is designed to reach maximum boost sooner than a conventional turbo, but overboosting will cause damage to turbo. PCM will control boost pressure by sending a duty cycle to WGC solenoid to maximize boosting performance, no more than 16.5 psi (113.8 kPa). When pressure is supplied on Red hose going to actuator (solenoid NOT energized), valve will open, dumping boost. When low or no pressure is on Red hose going to actuator (solenoid energized), valve will stay closed.
