  1. 1) KOEO DTC P1662: Check VPWR Circuit To IDM Relay For Open
DTC P1662 indicates that PCM has detected an IDM enable circuit malfunction. Possible causes are:
    • Faulty IDM Relay
    • Open IDM Enable Or VPWR Circuit To IDM Relay
    • Blown IDM VPWR Fuse
    • Faulty PCM

Remove IDM relay from central junction box (Excursion and F250-550), or from battery junction box (all others). See Figure, Figure or Figure . Battery junction box is located on left front of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. On Econoline, measure voltage between chassis ground and cavity No. 85 (Red/Light Green wire) at IDM relay in battery junction box. On Excursion and F250-550, measure voltage between chassis ground and cavity No. 85 (White/Light Blue wire) at IDM relay in central junction box. On F650-750, measure voltage between chassis ground and cavity No. 85 (White/Light Blue wire) in battery junction box. See Figure, Figure or Figure . On all models, if battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check for blown IDM VPWR fuse, or for open circuit in Red/Light Green wire (Econoline), or White/Light Blue wire (F250-750) to IDM relay. Repair wiring as necessary. Clear DTCs and retest.

  2. 2) Check IDM-EN Circuit For Short To Ground

Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between chassis ground and cavity No. 86 (White/Black wire) at IDM relay. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step  4). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step.
  3. 3) Check PCM Internal IDM Enable Circuit For Short To Ground

Disconnect PCM connector and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. PCM is located in left rear of engine compartment, near brake master cylinder. Repair connector as necessary. Install Rotunda Breakout Box (014-00950), leaving PCM disconnected. Using DVOM, measure resistance between chassis ground and test pin No. 80 at breakout box. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, locate and repair short to ground in White/Black wire between PCM and IDM relay. Clear DTCs and retest.
  4. 4) Verify PCM Is Enabling IDM Relay

Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between chassis ground and cavity No. 86 (White/Black wire) at IDM relay. Note resistance reading. While observing DVOM, turn ignition on. If resistance changes to less than 5 ohms, replace IDM relay. Clear DTCs and retest. If resistance does not change to less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  5. 5) Check For Open Circuit

Disconnect PCM connector and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. PCM is located in left rear of engine compartment, near brake master cylinder. Repair connector as necessary. Install Rotunda Breakout Box (014-00950), leaving PCM disconnected. Using DVOM, measure resistance of White/Black wire between test pin No. 80 at breakout box and cavity No. 86 at IDM relay. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Black wire between PCM and IDM relay. Clear DTCs and retest.
  6. NOTE: For additional testing information, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .

  7. 6) DTC P1663 & P1667 Present Along With/Without P1668: Check For DTC P1662
Ensure PCM and IDM are connected. Turn ignition on. Repeat KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST  under QUICK TEST. If DTC P1662 is present, go to step  1). If DTC P1662 is not present, go to next step.
  8. 7) Check IDM PWR Feed Fuse

Remove and inspect fuse No. 11 (Econoline) or fuse No. 118 (F650-750) from battery junction box. Battery junction box is located on left front of engine compartment. On Excursion and F250-550, remove and inspect fuse No. 105 from central junction box. Central junction box is located behind lower left side of instrument panel. See Figure-Figure . On all models, if fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in B+ circuit between IDM and appropriate junction box. Repair circuit as necessary and replace fuse. Clear DTCs and retest.
  9. 8) Check B+ Circuit To IDM Relay For Open

Remove IDM relay from the central junction box (Excursion and F250-550), or from engine compartment battery junction box (all others). On Econoline, measure resistance of Yellow wire between output side of fuse No. 11 and cavity No. 30 at IDM relay. On Excursion and F250-550, measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Green wire between output side of fuse No. 105 and cavity No. 30 at IDM relay. On F650-750, measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Green wire between output side of fuse No. 118 and cavity No. 30 at IDM relay. See Figure, Figure or Figure . On all models, if resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open B+ circuit or replace central junction box as necessary. Clear DTCs and retest.
  10. 9) Check B+ Circuit To IDM For Open

Disconnect IDM 40-pin connector. IDM is located in left side of engine compartment. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Green wire between cavity No. 87 at IDM relay and terminal No. 14 at IDM harness connector. See Figure and Figure, Figure or Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, leave IDM disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Dark Green/Light Green wire between IDM and IDM relay. Clear DTCs and retest.
  11. 10) IDM Relay Check

Reinstall IDM relay. Ensure fuse No. 11 (Econoline), fuse No. 118 (F650-750) or fuse No. 105 (Excursion and F250-550) is removed. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Dark Green/Light Green wire between terminal No. 14 at IDM harness connector and output side of fuse No. 11 (Econoline), fuse No. 118 (F650-750) or fuse No. 105 (Excursion and F250-550). On all models, if resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace IDM relay. Clear DTCs and retest.
  12. 11) Check IDM Ground Circuit For Open

Using DVOM, measure resistance between battery negative terminal and terminal No. 26 (Black/White wire on Econoline or Black/Pink wire on Excursion and F250-750) at IDM harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace IDM. Clear DTCs and retest. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire (Econoline) or Black/Pink wire (Excursion and F250-750). Clear DTCs and retest.
