FAULT CODE SETTING CONDITION
| Fault Code | KOEO | KOER | Continuous Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| P0603 | Test MA , Step 1) | Test MA , Step 1) |
- 1) Confirm KOEO & Continuous Memory DTC P0603: Repeat Self-Test
DTC P0603 indicates a PCM Keep Alive Memory (KAM) error. Possible causes are:- Battery Or PCM Has Been Disconnected
- Battery Cables Loose Or Poor Connection
- Battery Discharged
- Keep Alive Power (KAPWR) Circuit Open
- Blown KAPWR Fuse
- Faulty PCM
Clear DTCs. Cycle ignition off, then on. Repeat KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. If Continuous Memo3ry DTC P0603 is still present, go to next step. If Continuous Memory DTC P0603 is not present, no concern is indicated at this time. Service any other DTCs that are present. If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete.
- 2) Check Fuse
On Econoline, check fuse No. 4 (10-amp) in battery junction box. Battery junction box is located on left front of engine compartment. On Excursion and F250-550, check fuse No. 36 (10-amp) in central junction box. On Excursion and F250-750, central junction box is located behind lower left side of instrument panel. On F650-750, check fuse No. 13 (20-amp) in central junction box. On all models, if fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Yellow wire (Econoline), Red/White wire (Excursion and F250-550) or Light Blue/Pink wire (F650-750) between blown fuse and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wiring as necessary and replace fuse. Clear DTCs and retest. - 3) Check Voltage To PCM
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. PCM is located in left rear of engine compartment, near brake master cylinder. Repair connector as necessary. Install Rotunda Breakout Box (014-00950), leaving PCM disconnected. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground pins No. 25, 51, 76 (Econoline), 77 and 103, and test pin No. 55 at breakout box. If battery voltage is not present, locate and repair open in Yellow wire (Econoline), Red/White wire (Excursion and F250-550) or Light Blue/Pink wire (F650-750) between fuse and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wiring as necessary and replace fuse. Clear DTCs and retest. If battery voltage is present, reconnect all connectors. Clear DTCs and repeat QUICK TEST . If DTC P0603 resets, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest.
