| P1663 | Test KF , Step 1) |
- 1) KOEO DTC P1663: Repeat KOEO Self-Test
DTC P1663 indicates that PCM has detected a failure on Fuel Delivery Command Signal (FDCS) circuit. Possible causes are:- Faulty Injector Driver Module (IDM)
- FDCS Circuit Open Or Shorted To Ground
- Faulty PCM
Repeat KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST and retrieve Continuous Memory DTCs. Proceed as follows:
- 2) Check Voltage On FDCS Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector and inspect for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. PCM is located in left rear of engine compartment, near brake master cylinder. Repair connector as necessary. Install Rotunda Breakout Box (014-00950) and connect PCM connector to breakout box. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between test pin No. 95 (FDCS) and GND circuit test pins No. 25, 51, 76 (Econoline), 91 and 103 at breakout box. If voltage is .5-.7 volt, go to next step. If voltage is less than .5 volt, go to step 4). If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to step 5). - 3) Perform Output State Check
Turn ignition on. Perform KOEO OUTPUT STATE SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. Toggle outputs ON and OFF by applying and releasing accelerator pedal. Using DVOM, measure voltage between test pin No. 95 (FDCS) and GND circuit test pins No. 25, 51, 76 (Econoline), 91 and 103 at breakout box. If voltage does not toggle between .5-.7 volt and battery voltage, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest. If voltage toggles between .5-.7 volt and battery voltage, fault is intermittent. Go to step 8). - 4) Check FDCS Circuit For Open
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector from breakout box. Disconnect IDM 40-pin connector. IDM is located in left side of engine compartment. Using DVOM, measure resistance of FDCS circuit (Brown/Orange wire) between test pin No. 95 at breakout box and terminal No. 17 at IDM harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 6). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown/Orange wire between PCM and IDM. Clear DTCs and retest. - 5) Check FDCS Circuit For Short To Power
Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector from breakout box. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between test pin No. 95 (FDCS) and GND circuit test pins No. 25, 51, 76 (Econoline), 91 and 103 at breakout box. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 7). If battery voltage is present, locate and repair short to voltage in Brown/Orange wire between PCM connector and IDM connector. Clear DTCs and retest. - 6) Check FDCS Circuit For Short To Ground
Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance between test pin No. 95 and pins No. 25, 51, 76 (Econoline), 77, 91 and 103 at breakout box. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, locate and repair short to ground in Brown/Orange wire between PCM connector and IDM connector. Clear DTCs and retest. - 7) Check PCM Output State Function
Turn ignition off. Connect PCM to breakout box. Ensure IDM is disconnected. Turn ignition on. Perform KOEO OUTPUT STATE SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. Toggle outputs ON and OFF by applying and releasing accelerator pedal. Using DVOM, measure voltage between test pin No. 95 and pins No. 25, 51, 76 (Econoline), 77, 91 and 103 at breakout box. If voltages does not toggle between .5-.7 volt and zero volt, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest. If voltage toggles between .5-.7 volt and zero volt, replace IDM. Clear DTCs and retest. - 8) Check For Intermittent
Turn ignition off and reconnect all components. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. Cycle ignition off, then on. Perform KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST. If DTC P1663 is present, replace PCM. Clear DTCs and retest. If DTC P1663 is not present, no concern is indicated at this time.
