NOTE:
This service information provides mechanical diagnosis of the turbocharger assembly. If there is a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated, or DTCs are present, these should be diagnosed prior to performing turbocharger mechanical diagnosis. Refer to the

- Verify the customer concern.
- Inspect the entire turbocharger system for obvious signs of damage or other mechanical concerns, using the following chart.
Visual Inspection Chart
VISUAL INSPECTION CHARTMechanical - Damaged turbocharger
- Normal end play and radial play
- Foreign object damage
- Turbo spins freely
- Damaged intake hoses
- Loose hose clamps
- Loose or broken Charge Air Cooler (CAC) tube clip
- Missing or damaged CAC tube O-ring
- Damaged CAC
- Restricted intake or exhaust
- Damaged/plugged or disconnected Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor
- Exhaust leaks
- Air leaks
- Inspect oil (dirty, incorrect level or diluted)
- Oil leaks
- Coolant leaks
- Damaged turbocharger
- If the concern(s) remains after the inspection, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
