Removal and Installation

WARNING:
When handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
- Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, BATTERY MOUNTING SYSTEM & BATTERY CABLES article.
- Disconnect the water in fuel sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the fuel conditioning module electrical connector.
- Depending on the amount of the O-ring seal swelling, removal of the fuel filter cover may be noisy and require some effort.
Loosen the fuel filter cover and unscrew it counterclockwise 3 full turns.
- To install, tighten the filter cover until it contacts the mechanical stops.
- Loosen the drain plug until the O-ring is showing and drain the fuel into a suitable container.
- Tighten by hand once the fuel has drained.
- Disconnect both rear fuel return tube-to-fuel conditioning module quick connect coupling and both rear fuel supply tube-to-fuel conditioning module quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL article.
- Remove the 4 mounting nuts and the fuel conditioning module and bracket as an assembly.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE:
There is a check valve in the fuel conditioning module, that will stop the fuel from siphoning out of the tank. It works when the filter cover is loosened 3 full turns or removed.
NOTE:
Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring seals prior to installation.
