Engine Support Insulators: Removal

Both engine support insulators 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING article.
  2. Remove intake manifold. For additional information, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD  in this service information.
  3. Remove the engine cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING - GASOLINE ENGINES article.
  4. Install the Engine Support Bar and Engine Support Bracket.

  5. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
  6. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and detach wiring harness retainer from A/C compressor stud bolt.

  7. Remove the 3 bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.

  8. NOTE: RH shown in illustration, LH similar.

  9. Remove the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts.
  10. NOTE: Failure to replace the transmission support insulator nuts may result in transmission support insulator damage.
    NOTE: If the transmission support insulator stud loosens when the transmission support insulator nut is removed, the stud must be discarded and a new stud installed.

  11. Remove and discard the 2 transmission support insulator-to-crossmember nuts.

    RH engine support insulator 

  12. Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to STARTING SYSTEM - GASOLINE ENGINES article.

    LH engine support insulator 

  13. Remove and discard the oil filter.

  14. NOTE: If metal foreign material is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. To diagnose mechanical concerns, ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article. If the mechanical concern is not diagnosed and repaired, engine failure may occur.

  15. Remove the threaded insert and position the oil cooler aside.
    • Inspect the engine oil cooler.
  16. NOTE: Failure to replace the engine support insulator nuts may result in engine support insulator damage.
    NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine support insulator nuts or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.
  17. Remove and discard the 3 LH engine support insulator nuts.

    Both engine support insulators 

  18. NOTE: Failure to replace the engine support insulator nuts may result in engine support insulator damage.
    NOTE: Only use hand tools when loosening the engine support insulator nuts or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.
    NOTE: The engine support insulator studs may come out of the insulator while removing the nuts. Install new engine support insulator studs if the studs come out of the insulator.
  19. Remove and discard the 4 RH engine support insulator nuts.
  20. NOTE: Failure to replace the engine support insulator studs may result in engine support insulator damage.
  21. Remove and discard the 2 engine support insulator studs from the RH engine support insulator.
  22. NOTE: The engine support insulator through bolt must be discarded and a new bolt installed, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.
    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing the engine support insulator through bolt or damage to the engine support insulator may occur.
  23. Remove and discard the RH and LH engine support insulator through bolts.
  24. Using the Engine Support Bar and Engine Support Bracket, raise the engine.

    RH engine support insulator 

  25. Remove the RH engine support insulator.
  26. NOTE: The engine support insulator bracket bolts must be discarded and new bolts installed, or damage to the vehicle may occur. They are a tighten-to-yield design and cannot be reused.
  27. If servicing the RH engine support insulator bracket, remove the 4 bolts and the RH engine support insulator bracket.
    • Discard the 4 engine support insulator bracket bolts.

    LH engine support insulator 

  28. Remove the LH engine support insulator.
  29. NOTE: The engine support insulator bracket bolts must be discarded and new bolts installed or damage to the vehicle may occur. They are a tighten-to-yield design and cannot be reused.
  30. If servicing the LH engine support insulator bracket, remove the 4 bolts and the LH engine support insulator bracket.
    • Discard the 4 engine support insulator bracket bolts.
