Oil Pan - Lower, Body On: Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Install a new press-in-place gasket for the oil pan.
  2. NOTE: Install a new O-ring seal on the oil pickup tube and place the tube in the oil pan.
  3. Position the oil pan and install the pickup tube and 2 bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).
  4. Install the oil pan and the 22 bolts.
    1. Install the 5 longer oil pan bolts.
    2. Install the 17 remaining oil pan bolts.
      • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  5. Lower the engine.
  6. Position back the transmission cooler tubes on the stud and install the nut.
    • Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

  7. Position back the ground cable and install the bolt.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

  8. Loosely install the 2 exhaust downpipe bolts.

  9. NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the transmission mount retaining nuts or damage to the transmission mount may occur.
  10. Remove and discard the 2 transmission mount retaining nuts. Install the 2 new transmission mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

  11. NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount retaining nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
  12. Install the 3 new LH engine mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 200 Nm (148 lb-ft).

  13. Install the 2 new upper studs for the RH engine mount.
    • Tighten to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft).

  14. NOTE: Only use hand tools when installing the engine mount retaining nuts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
  15. Install the 4 new RH engine mount retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

  16. Position the RH turbocharger inlet pipe in the vehicle.

  17. NOTE: Failure to correctly install the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield may result in engine damage.
    NOTE: High-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield removed for clarity.
  18. Install the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield in the vehicle and install the 2 center bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  19. NOTE: Engine removed from the vehicle for clarity.
  20. Position the fuel tube bracket and ground strap. Install the 5 retaining nuts and bolt for the high-pressure fuel injection pump heat shield.
    • Tighten the fuel line bracket nuts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
    • Tighten the remaining fasteners to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  21. Position the EGR- OC  pipe in the vehicle.

  22. Connect the EGRT  sensor electrical connector to the glow plug module bracket.

  23. Install the glow plug module and 2 retaining nuts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  24. Connect the glow plug module electrical connectors.

  25. NOTE: Use a socket to aid on installing the pushnuts.

  26. Install the glow plug module heat shield and 3 new pushnuts.
  27. Connect the PCM electrical connector and wire retainer.

  28. NOTE: Install a new press-in-place gasket.
  29. Install the crankcase vent oil separator and 4 bolts.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  30. Connect the crankcase vent oil separator drain tube.

  31. With the help of an assistant, install the hood and 4 bolts. Connect the hood lift rods.
    • Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).

  32. Connect the underhood light electrical connector and pin-type retainers.

  33. Connect the windshield washer hose.

    Vehicles with dual generator 

  34. Install the secondary generator. For additional information, refer to CHARGING SYSTEM .

    All vehicles 

  35. Install the upper cooling fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  36. Install the turbocharger. Carry out the Turbocharger - Body On procedure. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING AND CONTROLS - TURBOCHARGER .
  37. Connect the battery ground cables. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  38. Fill the engine with the correct motor oil for the climate. Refer to the ENGINE .
