Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - TorqShift, Diesel Engine: Removal

All vehicles 

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
2. Disconnect the front transmission fluid cooler tube assembly hoses from the radiator in-tank cooler and the auxiliary cooler.
3. Remove the front fluid cooler tube secondary latches.
4. Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tube assemblies.

5. Disconnect the front cooler tube assembly retainer from the frame rail and remove the front transmission fluid cooler tube assembly.
6. Remove the fluid cooler tube assembly bracket nut.
7. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
8. Remove the upper fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
9. Remove the charge air cooler (CAC) inlet tube.

NOTE: Use a backup wrench to prevent the fittings from turning.
10. Disconnect the turbocharger oil feed tubes.

NOTE: If equipped with dual generators, remove the upper generator. Refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.
11. Install the lifting bracket.

12. Install the special tools.

13. Remove the 4 RH engine mount nuts.

14. Remove the 3 LH engine mount nuts.

15. Loosen the 2 transmission insulator nuts.

16. Disconnect the exhaust pipes.

17. Lift the right side of the engine approximately 38.1 mm (1.5 in).

Early build vehicles 

18. Remove the remote mount transmission fluid filter secondary latches.
CAUTION: A backup wrench must be used on the remote mounted transmission fluid filter housing while disconnecting and connecting the transmission fluid cooler tubes or damage to the filter housing will occur.
NOTE: The quick connect fittings may need to be removed from the remote mount transmission fluid filter housing in order to disconnect the middle fluid cooler tubes. Do not reuse the quick connect fittings.
19. Using the special tool, disconnect the middle fluid cooler tubes from the remote mount transmission fluid filter housing.

20. Disconnect the front RH ABS electrical connector.

21. Remove the middle transmission fluid cooler tube.
CAUTION: A backup wrench must be used on the remote mounted transmission fluid filter housing while disconnecting and connecting the transmission fluid cooler tubes or damage to the filter housing will occur.
22. Using a backup wrench, disconnect the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes from the remote mounted transmission fluid filter.
23. Remove the remote mounted transmission fluid filter-to-bracket bolt and remove the filter.
24. Remove remote mounted transmission fluid filter bracket bolts and the bracket.

All vehicles 

25. Disconnect the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission case and remove them from the vehicle.
