Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes - TorqShift, Diesel Engine: Installation

All vehicles 

1. Install the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes into the vehicle and connect the transmission fluid cooler tubes to the transmission case.
   • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

Early build vehicles 

2. Install the remote mount transmission fluid filter bracket and bolts.
   • Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
3. Install the remote mounted transmission fluid filter and install the filter-to-bracket bolt.
   • Tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
CAUTION: A backup wrench must be used on the remote mounted transmission fluid filter housing while disconnecting and connecting the transmission fluid cooler tubes or damage to the filter housing will occur.
4. Using a backup wrench, connect the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes to the remote mounted transmission fluid filter.
   • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
5. Install the middle transmission fluid cooler tubes.
6. Connect the middle transmission fluid cooler tubes to the remote mount fluid filter housing.
7. Install the remote mount transmission fluid filter secondary latches.
8. Connect the front, RH ABS electrical connector.

All vehicles 

9. Lower the engine.
10. Connect the exhaust pipes.
    • Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

NOTE: The transmission insulator studs may have been removed with the nuts, install if necessary.
11. Tighten the transmission insulator nuts.
    • Tighten the studs to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft).
    • Tighten the nuts to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

12. Install the 3 LH engine mount nuts.
    • Tighten to 172 Nm (127 lb-ft).

13. Install the 4 RH engine mount nuts.
    • Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).

14. Remove the special tools.

NOTE: If equipped with dual generators, install the upper generator. Refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR article.
15. Remove the lifting bracket.

CAUTION: Only use banjo bolts with a green hex head. Failure to install the correct banjo bolt may result in damage to the turbocharger.
NOTE: Use a backup wrench to prevent the fittings from turning.
16. Install new copper sealing washers and banjo bolts on the turbocharger oil feed fittings.
    • Tighten to 38 Nm (28 lb-ft).
    • Move the turbocharger actuator linkage through the full range of motion and verify that the turbocharger oil supply tube does not contact the turbocharger actuator linkage.

17. Install the CAC inlet tube.
    • Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

18. Install the upper fan shroud. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING article.
19. Install the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION AND FILTERING article.
20. Position the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly bracket onto the stud and install the nut.
    • Tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
21. Install the front transmission fluid cooler tube assembly and connect the front cooler tube assembly retainer to the frame rail.
22. Connect the transmission fluid cooler tube assemblies.
23. Install the front fluid cooler tube assembly secondary latches.
24. Connect the front transmission fluid cooler tube assembly hoses to the radiator in-tank cooler and the auxiliary cooler.
25. Fill with clean automatic transmission fluid and check for leaks.
