Spring - F-250, F-350: Installation

    CAUTION: Final tightening of the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt must be done with the suspension at curb height or damage to the bushing may occur.
  1. Position the rear spring and install the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt and flag nut until snug. Do not tighten the nut at this time.
  2. CAUTION: Final tightening of the spring-to-front bracket bolt must be done with the suspension at curb height or damage to the bushing may occur.
  3. Install the spring-to-front bracket bolt and flag nut until snug. Do not tighten the nut at this time.
  4. CAUTION: Final tightening of the U-bolt nuts must be done with the suspension at curb height or incorrect clamp load may occur.
  5. Position the spring upper plate and install the U-bolts and nuts, align the U-bolts so they are as vertical as possible, and tighten until snug. Do not fully tighten the nuts at this time.
  6. With the suspension at curb height, tighten the shackle-to-rear bracket bolt to 225 Nm (166 lb-ft).
  7. With the suspension at curb height, tighten the spring-to-front bracket bolt to 515 Nm (340 lb-ft).
  8. With the suspension at curb height, tighten the nuts evenly in a cross-type pattern in 4 stages.
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).
    • Stage 3: Tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
    • Stage 4: Tighten to 185 Nm (136 lb-ft).
  9. Install the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS AND TIRES article.
