Alternate Procedure For Overfull Oil Level Condition

This test determines if the high pressure fuel system pump is leaking.

NOTE:
Do not start the engine. Damage to the engine may occur.
- Key in OFF position.
- Drain the engine oil. Do not install the drain plug.
- Install a battery charger to maintain battery voltage during the test.
- Key ON, engine OFF. Allow the low pressure fuel pump to run until it stops.
- Cycle the key OFF then ON after the low pressure pump stops. Repeat this step 10 times.
- Visually check for fuel leaking during this test. Fuel will drain from the crankcase drain plug opening if the high pressure fuel system pump is leaking.
- If visible fuel leaks are present, install a new high pressure fuel pump. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL -- F-250-550 (SUPER DUTY PICKUPS) . Check the intake air system and related components for oil residue caused from the engine oil overfull condition and repair as necessary. Check the turbocharger bearings. Refer to the Workshop article part 303-04D, Turbocharger, Bearing Clearance Check.
- If no visible fuel leaks are present, and the engine oil level was overfull in Test 2 Check Engine Oil Level, carry out the Fuel System Leak Test.
