Recommended Procedure

NOTE:

NOTE:
Carry out this test only when directed here from another procedure or DTC. For a cranks no start condition with or without DTCs, carry out the Alternate Procedure.

NOTE:
While carrying out the High Pressure Fuel System Test, at the first sign of a fuel leak immediately abort the test. Refer to the scan tool manufacturers article for instructions.
- Install the oil pan drain plug and fill the engine with 14.19 liters (15 quarts) of engine oil.
- Bleed the high pressure fuel system. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION - GASOLINE AND DIESEL -- F-250-550 (SUPER DUTY PICKUPS) . If air bubbles are present, complete the Fuel System Bleeding - High Pressure, Diesel Engine and retest. If the concern or DTC is still present continue with this test.
- Key ON, engine running.
- Access the PCM and monitor the RPM, FRP and FRP_DSD PIDs.
- Access the PCM and command the RPM to 1,500.
- Access the PCM and command the FRP_DSD to 169.96 MPa (24,650 PSI).
- Maintain the RPM and FRP_DSD for 10 minutes.
- Key in the OFF position.
- Allow the engine to remain OFF for 5 minutes.
- Check for the correct oil level using the dipstick with the vehicle on level ground.
- If the engine oil level is not overfull, continue with the Alternate Procedure.
- If the engine oil level is overfull due to diesel fuel contamination, remove the right hand and left hand valve covers. Refer to ENGINE - 6.4L DIESEL -- F-250-550 (SUPER DUTY PICKUPS) , Valve Cover. Check the fuel lines, fuel line connections and fuel injectors for leaks, cracks, and correct installation. If a concern is present, repair as necessary. Check the turbocharger bearings. Refer to the Workshop article part 303-04, Turbocharger, Bearing Clearance Check.
- Key ON, engine running.
- Carry out the High Pressure Fuel System Test on the scan tool. Check the fuel lines, fuel line connections and fuel injectors for leaks during the test. If a concern is present, repair as necessary.
- If no concern is present, carry out the Alternate Procedure.
