WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford Pickup, 2008 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2008 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P138D - TURBOCHARGER BOOST CONTROL A TEMPERATURE TOO HIGH

Description:  The powertrain control module (PCM) continuously monitors the controller area network (CAN) for messages from the turbocharger actuator to set this DTC. The turbocharger actuator monitors the internal actuator temperature to determine if it is within a calibrated range. If the temperature is outside of the calibrated range a CAN message is sent to the PCM.
Possible Causes:
  • The internal actuator temperature is greater than 145°C (293°F) when the key is turned on.
Diagnostic Aids:  The DTC P138D indicates the vehicle was operated in a manner which caused the internal temperature of the turbocharger actuator to exceed a calibrated limit.
The actuator will resume normal operation when the internal temperature falls below 135°C (275°F).
