P0219 - ENGINE OVERSPEED CONDITION

Description:  Indicates the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected an engine overspeed condition. Under normal conditions engine overspeed is prevented by reducing the injected fuel mass but can happen if the engine is running by oil ingestion. To prevent short engine overspeed from setting the DTC, the overspeed must last for a greater time period than a calibrated limit.
Possible Causes:
  • Incorrect downshift
  • Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor interference
  • Camshaft position (CMP) sensor interference
  • Excessive engine speed
Diagnostic Aids:  The DTC indicates the vehicle has been operated in a manner which caused the engine speed to exceed 4,000 RPM for greater than 3 seconds.
