Test H: Theft Warning Indicator Always On/Inoperative: ZX2
- Arm anti-theft system. If anti-theft system arms properly, go to next step. If anti-theft system does not arm properly, see ACTIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - ESCORT & ZX2 article.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252. See Figure. Disconnect Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module 22-pin harness connector C404, located in luggage compartment. See Figure. Measure resistance of Yellow/Violet wire between RAP module 22-pin harness connector C404 terminal No. 16 and Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252 terminal No. 9. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252 terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Violet wire). Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms. If resistances are as specified, reconnect RAP module 22-pin harness connector and go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Yellow/Violet wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Monitor LEDFLASH PID. If LEDFLASH PID indicates ENABLED, go to next step. If LEDFLASH PID does not indicate ENABLED, go to ACTIVE COMMAND MENU and enable LED FLASH WHEN ARMED command. Retest system operation.
- Visually inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for damage, cracks or hot spots. If instrument cluster printed circuit appears okay, go to next step. If instrument cluster printed circuit appears damaged, replace printed circuit and gauge contact clips. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
- Arm anti-theft system. Measure voltage between ground and Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252 terminal No. 9 (Yellow/Violet wire). If voltage is about 2 volts and concern is THEFT indicator always on, see ACTIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - ESCORT & ZX2 article to perform RAP disarm procedure. Retest system operation. If voltage is about 2 volts and concern is THEFT indicator always off, replace THEFT bulb. Retest system operation. If voltage is not about 2 volts, replace RAP module. See REMOTE ANTI-THEFT PERSONALITY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
