Pinpoint Test V: The Parking, Rear Or License Lamps Are On Continuously

- V1 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LAMPS
- Observe the exterior parking lamps.
- Are all the parking lamps illuminated?
- Yes : GO to V2.
- No : GO to V6.
- V2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH INPUT
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Monitor the instrument cluster headlamp switch status PID while rotating the knob to the parking lamps ON and then OFF positions.
- Does the PID match with the headlamp switch position?
- Yes : GO to V5.
- No : GO to V3.
- V3 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
- Carry out the headlamp switch component test. COMPONENT TESTING .
- Is the headlamp switch OK?
- Yes : GO to V4.
- No : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to HEADLAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
- V4 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-LF14 (WH/BU) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220c.
- Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch C205-5, circuit 8-LF14 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : GO to V5.
- V5 CHECK FOR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. Refer to INFORMATION, GAUGES & WARNING DEVICES . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
- V6 CHECK THE CONTROL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: REM C420a and C420e.
- Disconnect: FEM C201b and C201c.
- Key in ON position.
- Does the parking, rear or license lamps continue to illuminate?
- Yes : REPAIR the control ground circuit as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : For the front lamp, GO to V7.
For the rear or license lamp, GO to V8.
- V7 CHECK FOR FEM OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all FEM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all FEM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new FEM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
- V8 CHECK FOR REM OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all REM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new REM. Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. REPEAT the self-test.
