Camshafts LH: Removal

Remove the timing drive components. For additional information, refer to TIMING DRIVE COMPONENTS .
Remove the water pump belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .

CAUTION: The OEM pulley is pressed on 4.74 mm (0.18 in) past flush of the camshaft. The service pulley gets pressed on flush to the end of the camshaft.

Using the special tools, remove the water pump drive pulley and discard.

CAUTION: In order to make sure of correct sealing, do not scratch the camshaft.

Using the special tools, remove the camshaft oil seal and discard.
Remove the intake camshaft oil seal retainer and discard the press-in-place gasket.

CAUTION: Record the camshaft bearing cap locations. The camshaft bearing caps are positional and must be installed in their original locations and orientations or engine damage can occur.

Loosen the bolts for the LH camshaft thrust caps.
Loosen the LH camshaft cap bolts in sequence to allow the camshafts to rise from the cylinder head and remove the caps.

Remove the camshafts.
