Oil Pan: Installation

- Install the oil pan gasket onto the oil pan.
- Apply a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in two places where the cylinder block meets the front cover and in two places where the rear main bearing cap meets the cylinder block.
- Install the oil pan and the 16 bolts. Tighten the bolts in three stages:
- Stage 1: Tighten the four corner bolts to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten the remaining bolts from back to front to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Check all bolts for correct tightness.
- Install the engine rear plate and the bolt.
- Install the starter motor. For additional information, refer to STARTER MOTOR .
- Install the dual converter Y-pipe. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
- Stop the engine.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Retighten the oil pan bolts from the back to front to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- Inspect the oil pan gasket for correct alignment.
- Lower the vehicle.
NOTE:
If the oil pan is not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness or four minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
NOTE:
The cooling fan should cycle at least one time. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
