Removal and Installation

NOTICE: Refrigerant Compressor Oil (mineral oil) F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) should be used to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals only and should not be added to R-134a refrigerant systems as an A/C compressor lubricant. PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil (R-134a Systems) F74Z-19589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B only should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant. 

All vehicles 

1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
2. Disconnect the A/C cycling switch connector.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the fitting and the tube, use a backup wrench when removing the suction accumulator.
3. Disconnect the evaporator core outlet tube.
   • Discard the O-ring seal.

   Vehicles equipped with auxiliary climate control 

4. Disconnect the auxiliary line fitting.
   • Discard the O-ring seal.

   Vehicles equipped with 5.4L, 6.8L or 7.3L diesel and auxiliary climate control 

5. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to ENGINE COOLING .

7.3L diesel vehicles 

6. Disconnect the heater hose coupling from the underbody auxiliary heater lines. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
7. Remove the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and bracket assembly (if equipped).
   1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
   2. Disconnect the clamp and disconnect the vacuum line.
   3. Remove the nuts and the MAP sensor and bracket assembly.

6.0L and 7.3L diesel vehicles 

8. Loosen the clamps and remove the intercooler tube (if equipped).

All vehicles 

9. Disconnect the manifold and tube assembly (19D734).
   • Discard the O-ring seal.

10. Detach the evaporator inlet from the clip.

11. Remove the suction accumulator bolts and remove the suction accumulator.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the fitting and tube, use a backup wrench when installing the suction accumulator.
12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install new O-ring seals lubricated in clean mineral oil.
    • Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil. Refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
