Removal and Installation

All vehicles

Drain the radiator. Refer to ENGINE COOLING .
Disconnect the heater outlet hose (18472) at the engine.

Disconnect the heater inlet hose at the engine.

Vehicles equipped with auxiliary climate control
Remove the charge air cooler pipe (6C646).

Disconnect the quick disconnect heater hose couplings from the heater water hoses. For additional information on the heater hose coupling disconnect and connect procedure, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .

Remove the heater control valve vacuum line and clamps and remove the heater control valve.

Remove the heater return line.

Remove the nuts and the heater return line.

All vehicles
Disconnect the heater water hoses from the heater core (18476). For additional information on the heater hose coupling disconnect and connect procedure, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate the coolant hoses with MERPOL® meeting Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B or plain water only, if needed.
