Flushing - Engine and Radiator

- Once pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
- Remove the coolant thermostat (8575).
- Install the coolant hose connection without the coolant thermostat.
- Use an appropriate cooling system flusher to flush the engine and radiator.
Use Ford Premium Cooling System Flush F1AZ-19A503-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M14P7-A.
- Install the coolant thermostat. Refer to THERMOSTAT - 5.4L, 6.8L .
- Backflush the heater core if necessary. Refer to BACKFLUSHING - Heater Core .
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding .
WARNING:
To avoid personal injury, do not unscrew the coolant pressure relief cap while the engine is operating or hot. The cooling system is under pressure; steam and hot liquid can come out forcefully when the cap is loosened slightly.

Refer to the cooling system flusher manufacturer's operating instructions for specific vehicle hook-up.
