WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- Q1 DETERMINE THE TRANSMISSION TYPE
- Check the vehicle transmission type.
- Is the vehicle equipped with a TorqShift transmission?
- Q2 CHECK THE DIGITAL TR SENSOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Digital TR Sensor C167
- Key in ON position.
- Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate?
- YES
: If equipped with a parking aid module (PAM), go to Q4.
If not equipped with a PAM, REPAIR circuit 140 (BK/PK) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : INSTALL a new digital TR sensor. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 4R70E/4R75E article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Q3 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMP RELAY OUTPUT
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Reversing Lamp Relay
- Key in ON position.
- Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate?
- Q4 CHECK CIRCUIT 140 (BK/PK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: PAM C2023
- Key in ON position.
- Do the reversing lamps continue to illuminate?
- YES : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : Go to Q7.
- Q5 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMP RELAY
- Key in OFF position.
- Carry out the reversing lamp relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING.
- Is the reversing lamp relay OK?
- YES : Go to Q6.
- NO : INSTALL a new reversing lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Q6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1362 (DG/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: PCM C175b (Gasoline Engine) or C1381t (Diesel Engine)
- Measure the resistance between the reversing lamp relay pin 2, circuit 1362 (DG/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to Q8.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Q7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION
- Disconnect the PAM connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to PARKING AID article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- Q8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the PCM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - GASOLINE ENGINES article or ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - DIESEL ENGINE article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
