Test B: Warning Indicator Is On With Engine Running, System Does Not Charge
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 10 other vehicles, including the 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2003 Ford Excursion, and 2003 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Measure voltage between ground and generator terminal "B+" (Yellow/White wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in circuit or fusible links between battery and generator. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect generator 3-pin harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and generator harness connector terminal "A" (Orange/Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in circuit or fusible links between battery and generator. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and generator harness connector terminal "I" (Light Green/Red wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is present, go to next step. If voltage is not present, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between generator and instrument panel. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Start engine and let idle. Turn headlights on. Turn rear defogger on. Turn blower motor to high. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM. Measure voltage between generator terminal B+ and positive battery terminal. If voltage is less than .5 volt, replace generator. If voltage is .5 volt or more, repair high resistance circuit between generator and battery. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
