Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

  1. If installing NEW clockspring, remove locking mechanism pull ring. If installing existing clockspring, remove tape applied during removal procedure. If clockspring rotor has moved or if unsure of clockspring rotor position, center clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERING  under ADJUSTMENTS. Maintain clockspring centered position.
    NOTE: Slight turning of clockspring is allowable during installation to properly align clockspring to steering column.
  2. To install, reverse removal procedure. DO NOT connect lower clockspring connector to steering wheel components at this time. Remove air bag simulator from lower clockspring harness connector and reconnect connectors. Through steering wheel access panel, install Air Bag Simulator (418-F403) to harness side of clockspring connector.
  3. Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, perform system operation check. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy. Remove air bag simulator from clockspring connector and reconnect connectors. Close steering wheel access panel.
  4. Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all remaining deployable devices, perform system operation check. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
