Test A: Air Bag Warning Light On Continuously-RCM Disconnected Or Inoperative: Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mercury Sable and 2003 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

During normal operation, the AIR BAG warning light will be continuously illuminated for 6 seconds after the ignition switch is placed in RUN or START position and after 5 cycles of Light Flash Code (LFC), if a fault exists. Be sure to cycle ignition switch and look for a continuous AIR BAG warning light without LFC.

The Restraints Control Module (RCM) will communicate Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to the scan tool through the Data Link Connector (DLC). If the scan tool displays NO COMMUNICATION when retrieving continuous DTCs, go to TEST U: NO COMMUNICATION WITH RCM  .
