Fuel Injector Sleeve: Removal

- Remove cylinder heads from engine. See appropriate ENGINES article. Remove lifting bracket from cylinder head. Remove rocker arm carrier bolts and remove rocker arm carrier. See Figure.
- Remove press-in-place gasket and cylinder head dowels. Clean and inspect gasket and sealing surfaces. See Figure.
- Insert Fuel Injector Sleeve Tap and Injector Sleeve Tap Pilot, from Fuel Injector Sleeve Remover Kit, into cylinder head fuel injector bore. Tighten Fuel Injector Sleeve Tap 1-1/2 to 2 turns. The fuel injector sleeve is made of stainless steel. Lubrication of the Fuel Injector Sleeve Tap is necessary. Excessive force will be needed to get the tap started and damage to the tap can occur without lubrication. See Figure.
- Install Fuel Injector Sleeve Removal Tool into the threaded fuel injector sleeve. Using the Impact Slide Hammer, remove fuel injector sleeve from the cylinder head fuel injector bore and discard the fuel injector sleeve. See Figure.
- Using the Injector Sleeve Brush Set, clean fuel injector bore of deposits and hardened sealant. See Figure. Remove fuel rail plug. Clean fuel gallery with a wire brush. See Figure. Using filtered compressed air, remove debris from fuel gallery. Install fuel rail plug.
