Pinpoint Test C: The Climate Control Illumination Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln Mark LT and 2007 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
- C1 CHECK CIRCUIT 19 (LB/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Climate Control Assembly (Automatic A/C) C228a
- Disconnect: Climate Control Assembly (Manual A/C) C294a
- Turn the parking lamps on, and rotate the dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the manual climate control C294a-2, circuit 19 (LB/RD), harness side and ground or between the automatic climate control C228a-2, circuit 19 (LB/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to C2.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 875 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Turn the parking lamps off.
- Measure the resistance between the manual climate control C294a-1, circuit 875 (BK/LB), harness side and ground or between the automatic climate control C228a-1, circuit 875 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to C3.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C3 CHECK FOR CORRECT CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the climate control module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the climate control module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new climate control module. REFER to CLIMATE CONTROL article. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
